Now you know which Photoshop plugins will make your work easier in this editor. Good luck!

A separate area in design, in addition to the programs themselves, or software, as they call it nowadays, are plugins. In our situation, we will consider plugins for Photoshop. So what is it all about?

These are separate or even independent software modules that work with a particular program and perform special functions not provided by the software itself. But we are considering Photoshop precisely because it is the most popular design software, a tool in general. And there are simply tons of plugins for this software. From paid to free, from simple functions to complex ones. Lots of varieties. Well, if you don’t plan to pay money for plugins, then you always have the Internet at hand, where you can download plugins for Photoshop.

In fact, plugins for Adobe Photoshop are a fairly popular market segment in the field of plugins in general. And this is due to the aforementioned popularity of Photoshop itself as a design program. Also, do not forget about such an element as photoshop filters. Filters are also indirectly plugins, but that’s not the point. The market is quite developed and wide - the difference in the quality of paid and free plugins is striking. Although nowadays there are even paid plugins available on the Internet that can be hacked in one way or another. Whether this is good or bad is difficult to understand. On the one hand, the rights of manufacturers are violated, on the other hand, not all plugins for Photoshop cost money, in fact.

Although, again, in general, plugins are an integral part of a modern designer’s work with this or that software. Despite the fairly good functionality of the programs, the needs still exceed the capabilities of the software itself. Thus, in any case, as you delve deeper into the functionality of the software and design complexities, you will have to download plugins for Photoshop. But downloading and buying are actually two different things. Whether to download on the Internet or purchase on specialized sites is up to you. You just have to understand that plugins for Adobe Photoshop are quite common on the Internet, and even if you don’t find exactly what you are interested in, you will certainly find something very similar in function.

In turn, photoshop filters are the same representatives of plugins. They are very different. The functions of such a filter are to create one or another change in the composition itself, let’s say, in the designer’s workspace in Photoshop. Filters can easily be classified as a software element such as plugins for Photoshop. Although, again, at this point we can safely argue about the difference between filters and plugins, but from the point of view that a plugin is a software module, we understand that all of this is generally nearby. And is defined by the term plugins. As we mentioned earlier, paid or free - it's up to you. The main thing is that the functional task assigned to the module is solved.

To summarize, we can highlight the fact that at the moment it is quite easy to find plugins for Photoshop on the Internet. Even if it takes a certain period of time, your expectations will most likely be met. A special word can be said about filters for the famous program called Photoshop. Photoshop filters are also available for download on the Internet. All you need is a computer with the Internet and free time to spend searching. All of the above are features of software modules called plugins for Adobe Photoshop. In the process of considering this situation, we realized that such plugins are an integral part of the work of any designer.

Modern digital cameras provide high quality images, and therefore the task of enlarging photographs at first glance does not seem particularly relevant, but in reality everything turns out to be somewhat different. The fact is that in some cases you simply cannot do without enlarging images. For example, after cropping the original photograph, the remaining fragment may be smaller in size than you would like to print, or you may need to create a poster from a regular photograph. In addition, sometimes you have to deal with either 2-3 megapixel photographs taken with outdated cameras, or even small photographs taken from mobile phones. It is often necessary to enlarge images taken from websites (for example, some drawings, maps or drawings), examine unclear fragments of old photographs, etc.

To enlarge an image while maintaining resolution, it is necessary to add new pixels to it, having previously calculated their color - as a rule, this is done by interpolation. Such a transformation can be carried out using the built-in tools of Adobe Photoshop or using specialized solutions. Photoshop supports three interpolation methods: Nearest Neighbor, Bilinear, and Bicubic interpolation (Bicubic, Bicubic Smoother, and Bicubic Sharper). Unfortunately, when using the first two methods, specific artifacts appear on enlarged images - in areas with sharp changes in brightness, a “stepping” effect (jagged edges) appears, the smoothness of tonal transitions is disrupted, and the image lacks clarity due to blurred boundaries. Bicubic interpolation provides better results, but only when zoomed in by no more than 150%; with larger zooms, image quality deteriorates noticeably.

A number of specialized solutions, which can be either stand-alone applications or plug-ins for Photoshop, use more complex original interpolation algorithms that provide significant scaling and allow you to produce enlarged images of better quality. For example, Genuine Fractals uses fractal magnification technology, which conveys both smooth transitions and clear details of the enlarged image well (Fig. 1). PhotoZoom uses the S-Spline spline smoothing method, which also ensures high quality enlarged images while maintaining their detail. In Blow Up, the enlarged raster image is first converted into a vector image - this allows it to be significantly enlarged while maintaining clarity and smoothness of the contours (Fig. 2), etc. We will look at some of these specialized solutions in this article.

Perfect Resize 7

Developer: onOne Software

Distribution size: Windows version - 58.2 MB; Mac version - 50 MB

Distribution method: http://www.ononesoftware.com/downloads/)

Price: Perfect Resize 7 Pro - $299.95; Perfect Resize 7 Std - $159.95

Perfect Resize 7 is a plugin for Adobe Photoshop CS2/CS3/CS4, Photoshop Lightroom 2.1, Apple Aperture 2 and Photoshop Elements 6/7/8, designed for resizing images. The solution is aimed mainly at professionals and allows you to enlarge images up to 1000% without any visible loss of quality and while maintaining their detail. Perfect Resize 7 implements fractal interpolation algorithms based on image encoding using the IFS (Iterated Functions System) method, which allow you to stretch individual image fragments taking into account their local geometric characteristics. Thanks to this, it is possible to avoid such artifacts of traditional interpolation (Nearest neighbor, Bilinear and Bicubic), such as the appearance of jagged edges, halos and excessive blurring of contours. To work with template types of images (portrait, landscape, low-resolution JPG image, etc.), there are built-in profiles with already selected sharpness and noise level settings, which can be easily adjusted if necessary and saved in a user profile. It is possible to limit the processed image area by cropping, which allows you to reduce processing time, as well as converting multiple images at once in batch mode. Batch processing provides clear control over size, resolution, file format, etc., and it is also possible to add a watermark.

In addition, the program includes Tiling and Gallery Wrap functions. The Tiling function is designed for printing large images on small-format printers by dividing the images into smaller parts and printing them on several sheets of standard-sized paper (then these sheets can only be glued together). Using the Gallery Wrap function, the edges of images intended for packaging design are stretched, which eliminates the possibility of losing image fragments on the bends.

Perfect Resize 7 can work with 8- and 16-bit images in RGB, Grayscale, Lab and CMYK color modes and supports most graphics formats, including RAW. There are two editions of the product - the basic Perfect Resize 7 Std and the extended Perfect Resize 7 Pro. The basic edition lacks integration with Photoshop Lighroom and Apple Aperture, it is impossible to process CMYK images and the possibilities for using Wrap functions are limited.

PhotoZoom Pro 4.0

Developer: BenVista

Distribution size: PhotoZoom Pro (Windows version - 8.3 MB; Mac version - 17.6 MB), PhotoZoom Classic (Windows version - 3.4 MB; Mac version - 5.5 MB)

Distribution method: shareware (demo version that adds a watermark to the image - http://www.benvista.com/main/content/content.php?page=downloads)

Price: PhotoZoom Pro - 169 euros; PhotoZoom Classic - 79 euros

PhotoZoom Pro is a solution designed to increase the size of images (including in batch mode) and is presented as a plug-in for Adobe Photoshop and a stand-alone program. Magnification can be done using several technologies, including the traditional Photoshop Bicubic interpolation method and the original S-Spline technology (S-Spline Max, S-Spline XL and S-Spline methods), which, according to the developers, provides the best results in most cases. The permissible degree of image magnification depends on the source file format and is maximum for TIFF and PNG images, the possible size of which after conversion can reach 1 x 1 million pixels. For the convenience of processing basic types of images (portrait photographs, low-contrast images, drawings, highly compressed images from the Internet, etc.), ready-made profiles are built into the program; fine-tuning of numerous parameters manually is also allowed. The settings selected for specific images can be easily saved in user profiles for further use. It is possible to limit the enlarged image area.

PhotoZoom supports major graphics formats (including RAW) and can work with 8-, 16-, and 32-bit images in RGB, Grayscale, Lab, and CMYK color modes. There are two editions of the product - the basic PhotoZoom Classic and the extended PhotoZoom Pro. The PhotoZoom Classic edition has limited interpolation capabilities - in particular, there is no support for the new S-Spline interpolation technology S-Spline Max, which in some cases provides a better result; it is impossible to fine-tune the conversion parameters and add a little noise to make an overly smoothed image natural (Film effect Grain), etc. In addition, working with HDR images is not allowed and support for Lab and CMYK modes is not fully implemented.

Blow Up 2

Price: for free

Enlarge is a console utility for enlarging images. It can enlarge images by 2, 3, 4 and 5 times using its own interpolation algorithm. The image conversion, which requires dragging the image file onto the program's EXE file to launch, is carried out taking into account the user-specified coefficients of line smoothness and image clarity, as well as the level of detail. Based on the results of the increase within the prescribed limits, the program is visually not inferior to commercial solutions, but it works slower than other solutions considered, and is not very convenient due to the lack of a graphical interface. In addition, there are images whose processing ends incorrectly.

Enlarge accepts files in common image formats as input and saves the resulting image in PNG format.

VSO Image Resizer 4.0.4.3

It supports major graphic file formats and can enlarge images up to 30 times, transforming them using a unique interpolation algorithm and taking into account the settings of one of the built-in profiles. It is possible to create custom profiles with manual adjustment of the parameters of the final image, which will eliminate noise, as well as adjust sharpness, smoothness, etc.

The original images can be pre-cropped as required.

Conclusion

We focused on several well-known solutions designed to increase the size of images, among which there are both quite expensive professional products, as well as more affordable or even free programs aimed at the widest audience. It is quite difficult to clearly select the best among the presented commercial solutions, since much depends on the type of source images, although in general, Genuine Fractals, Blow Up and Photozoom provide better results. At the same time, Genuine Fractals copes better with graphics than other solutions, that is, with images that have many clear color boundaries, while Blow Up and Photozoom are more suitable for enlarging photographs. Among free programs, Enlarge stands out noticeably in terms of the quality of the resulting images, but its speed and ease of use are not impressive.

8. Hot Pixel

The plugin is designed to remove “hot” pixels (bright spots, noise) from digital images. "Hot pixel" often occurs when shooting with a digital camera using long exposures in low light conditions. 10. Plugin switch

There are a few other plugins worth checking out, such as: Wire Worm, which allows you to get rid of the ubiquitous wires that disrupt the harmony of your photo or Genuine Fractals And PhotoZoom Professional, with which you can increase the size of a digital photo without compromising quality, and the plugin Flood You can also try it for a 3D effect.

This text is not about the ruble exchange rate and the crisis! Not even about . I will continue to tell you about: there have been no posts on this topic for a long time. Today I will show plugins that almost regularly I use it when working with photographs. I’ll make a reservation right away, there are a lot of plugins, as well as processing methods, there are many similar ones, which one should you use - a matter of your taste and habit; This does not mean at all that after this post you need to download new ones and delete old ones.

From sentiment to action!

1. I’ll start with the warmest and then go a little further, Knoll Light Factory. It will help you create beautiful lighting, rays and bunnies :) Remember, this technique is only relevant for photographs taken in, well, the main thing is not in the frontal view :)

2. The plugin interface is simple and minimalistic. On the left you see ready-made light patterns, I only used first two, I don’t know if the others are needed. On the right are the settings for that same illumination, you can turn on/off various elements + customize them in detail. Well, there are two main sliders at the bottom: Brightness (brightness, light intensity) and Scale (Size). There is also a Color square, where you choose its color; here it is clear that the yellow-orange color scheme will predominate.

3. Oh yes, don't forget to make a copy of the layer before using the plugin. This is a 35mm flare.

4. This is 85 mm. Choose any one, there are many options for their detailed configuration, so I’m sure you’ll find the best option for yourself.

5. And, of course, it doesn’t hurt to “polish” the effect with the Curves tool. O great and almighty Curves! With the principle of operation of masks.

6. The Blue curve is responsible for the yellowness, drag it down.

8. Done! Warmth, comfort and vanilla pour from your monitor into a gray reality, where the euro is 100 rubles :)

9. The following situation. Large areas of skin “outside the face”: arms, legs, chest...well, it depends on how well you know how to undress the model.

10. The skin is completely problem-free, as in this case, but slightly smooth out will not be superfluous.

11. As you remember, I'm not a supporter of hours-long manipulations with photographs, especially when the shooting genre does not require it. Portraiture plugin when correct use can save many years of a photographer’s life. So, let's copy the layer, my tool mode is set to Normal, the only thing I change is the color, based on which the plugin will even out the skin. This can be done by poking a pipette into the desired area, or by moving the square on the palette yourself.

12. Again, don’t forget to make a working copy of the layer create a mask and brush only problem areas, in order to avoid blurring the texture of the skin (I showed it in detail in this lesson). It’s very good to combine this element with an action from Oleg Tityaev, which can be found in his article on quick skin retouching ( I highly recommend studying).

13. It was/has become, the effect is not revolutionary, but noticeable and important. Physically, you won't be able (though if you're a nerd) to spend a lot of time processing the entire body in the same format as required by facial retouching.

14. You mustn't forget that all relatively large skin nuances need to be corrected manually - Healing brush to help you! But only after already “smooth out” the overall picture with plugins and actions.

15. Well, my favorite is Alien Skin Expourse (I have version 6). A plugin that helps a lot in choosing the tone of pictures and generally makes life easier. I had a talk about coming up with colors .

16. It is very similar to Lightroom, I think the latter is used as a basis. On the left we have a window with ready-made templates divided into thematic groups, on the right we have detailed settings.

17. There are a lot of settings, but in an evening using scientific poking, which by the way is the best way to study program interface elements, you will understand everything. An interesting thing is that it is also possible to make lights and hares.

18. There’s no noise today - they’ll laugh! Here, fortunately, it has extensive settings.

19. The third must-have for a modern photographer is the tilt-shift effect, especially if you don’t have the appropriate lens. Everything is simple and clear, I don’t even know what to write about it :)
More note- you can use stars to select the presets you like as favorites. You can create your own by tweaking the following settings - just click on the + icon on the top right in the left block, give it a name and it will be with you forever.

20. Just an option, of which there may be several, everything here is to your taste and color. This tool really helps me decide., + a lot of its presets significantly speeds up frame processing.

I foresee questions: where can I get these plugins? There are two scenarios (everyone will choose their own): buy or write in Google “download such and such a plugin with a key” (oh my God, my Windows is also pirated). There is nothing difficult in finding and installing the programs I described.

P.S. Tell us what plugins you use?

And have a nice weekend :)
